Collecting milk samples in the Nobis parlor. Hopefully this was not the rambunctious, uncooperative heifer group. The employees at Nobis Dairy Farms were very helpful and patient with us impeding their normally fast-paced milking routine.
AntelBio currently provides disease screening services for Johnes, bovine viral diarrhea, and bovine leukosis virus to assist livestock producers in the management of these diseases. AntelBio is part of a group of private companies and organizations, whom in conjunction with the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine are participating in the Food Systems Fellowship Program. This program consists of paid summer internships for first and second year vet students providing valuable work experience to supplement coursework. As the 2007 AntelBio intern, I will be assisting on the development of a pregnancy hormone milk assay to determine the preganancy status of cattle during mid gestation. The end product should provide an inexpensive, convenient reproductive management tool for producers.
I have just finished my second year of vet school at Michigan State University. This is my last free summer before we start clinics in the spring, and this blog will give you a glimpse of the summer internship opportunities available to vet students.
